BIOGRAPHY

Joachim Pierer is Assistant Professor at the University of Vienna Law School, Department of Private Law. He holds degrees from the University of Vienna (J.D., Ph.D.) and the Yale Law School (LL.M.).

He studied law at the University of Vienna Law School and graduated in 2012 among the top of his class. During his studies, he worked as research and teaching assistant for Professor Franz-Stefan Meissel at the Department of Roman Law and Classical Legal History and before that as a legal intern in two Viennese law firms.

After clerking, he started working with Professor Constanze Fischer-Czermak at the Department of Private Law. In 2014, Joachim paused his job to serve as an assistant to the former Chief Justice of Austria, Irmgard Griss, who headed a Governmental Commission of Inquiry on the nationalization of an Austrian bank.

In 2017, he received his Ph.D in law and was also awarded additional diplomas in legal gender studies as well as art and cultural law. He then earned his LL.M. from Yale Law School. There he was one of the editors of the Yale Journal of Law & Technology.

Since October 2018 he is Assistant Professor (“Universitätsassistent Post Doc”) at the Department of Private Law at the University of Vienna.
